Basic Troubleshooting for Connectivity | Scanner Issues
- Clear cache
- Re-install Ingress
- Restart phone
- Connect on wifi vs cell
- Turn airplane mode on/off
- Turn cell service on/off
“Unable to Authenticate” and “Failed to Log in” Error Messages
You may receive “Unable to Authenticate” or “Failed to Log in” error messages if our servers are experiencing a temporary issue or your network connectivity is poor.
Check to ensure your mobile device has a strong network connection, or wait a short while, then try logging in again. If the issue persists, try closing and reopening the Ingress app.

Check your pop-up blocker settings
Niantic has confirmed that some pop-up blockers block the screen required for Google Login. Please exclude sites related to Google Login from your pop-up blocker settings, or temporarily stop the pop-up blocker settings, and then restart the application and try to log in again. Please contact the service provider of the pop-up blocker you are using for instructions on how to change your pop-up blocker settings or suspend the pop-up blocker.
Email Address & Login Provider Help
If you do not know which email address or login provider you used to log into Ingress, we may be able to help recover it by looking up your Agent codename. Please visit this FAQ for more information.

Reset your password:
Your account password is maintained by your login provider: either Google or Apple. Because Ingress does not collect or store your external account passwords, our support team cannot access or reset the password of the external account you use to log in.
