How do I add a Portal or get a Portal removed?

At this time, there is no way to add a new Portal to Ingress. As of September 2, 2015, we suspended new Portal submissions for a period of time while we work on processing the backlog and on designing new and more efficient ways to evaluate Portal submissions and edits. You will no longer see the NEW PORTAL option when long pressing on the Scanner.

We will remove Portals from Ingress for a very narrow and defined set of reasons, including if:

  • The Portal is on private residential property (i.e., someone’s house or farm)
  • The Portal is on the grounds of a primary or secondary school
  • The Portal is a duplicate
  • We have 100% proof that the Portal no longer exists or never existed

Portals that meet these criteria must be reported via your Scanner. At this time, we’re unable to take removal reports via email or through this site.

Note that you do not need to be in range of the Portal to report it - you simply must be able to see the Portal on your screen when all the way zoomed out in your Scanner.

  • Touch the Portal’s photo
  • Touch EDIT
  • Select REPORT INVALID PORTAL

We will also remove Portals if they present immediate physical danger (e.g., in the middle of a road or on railroad tracks). These can either be reported via your Scanner or, it is unsafe to do so, via email. Please do not email us using this form about removing Portals unless they present an immediate physical danger. Email reports about other types of removal requests will not be addressed.
